I am happy to report that little Miss Patience is sleeping 6 hours a night, is nursing vigorously, and has little or no tummy ache--praise God! She is sleeping soundly on my lap as I type, she seems to know I am her mommy and will not sleep unless I am there--which is wonderful in many ways, especially when I lay down at night and as soon as she is tucked in beside me, she settles into deep sleep until it is time to get Daddy ready for work.
I set up everything the night beforehand--a shirt is ironed and ready, pants, undies and socks close at hand, coffee pot (we keep one in our bathroom) is filled and ready to brew. I even have packaged danishes that I put on the counter to go with his coffee. This way, if the baby needs attention, my dear husband will still have everything in place. Then we sit and admire the baby together, pray together, etc. before he makes the trek through dense traffic for an hour to work.
He was commenting this morning as he was holding her just how fun it is to get to know another person--to have the fun of watching her discover her world and who she is. What a wonderful man he is--he has shared so many sleepless nights with me, watched and worried and taken counseled and corrected and laughed over so many cute antics. We are still watching even the oldest of our children discover more of life and who they are. It is nice we can be part--to wake up after an afternoon nap and find our grown children asleep with the younger children, our home is just a nice retreat from the big, wide world.
We have 6 little girls now, 11 years old and younger, which means lots of giggles, squeals, skirts and hand-me-downs, which are getting pretty threadbare, so our next project is to search for appropriate clothes--so my oldest girls have volunteered to begin the search. It takes time because we are pretty careful how our children dress.
Gracie told me today of a free water park in our town--so in a couple of days she is helping me to take the kids to get wet and have some fun. She is working for a church preschool right now, so she will also be finding other neat things for us to do this summer.
We have been doing math every morning, which is a good a good use of our time, as well as reading the book Sodom Had no Bible by Leonard Ravenhill. This book stirs us up and inspires us to pray longer and better.
This morning we spent time looking through family photos. It was good to enjoy some sentimentality, but I was reminded why I am leaving my scrapbooking days until I do not have babies and toddlers!
We ate corn bread in milk for breakfast, then had the left over corn bread with beans and rice for dinner. What is it about such a simple meal that is so satisfying? We have a freezer filled with other things, but beans and rice was just what we needed.

Hi
ReplyDeleteI was just curious, you mentioned you're careful about how the children dress, what ideals do you have regarding it? I dress reasonably modestly (if i wear pants they're full length, but i prefer full length skirts. recently ive begun exploring a bit each way though, with full length dresses and knee length skirts with stockings underneath) and am generally able to find all sorts of things at my local thrift stores, and many have sections for children, but you sound as if it takes a fair bit of effort to find clothes, so I was just wondering if you would share your beliefs in this area.
It must be fun to have so many little girls there! girls are wonderful :)
What a wonderful blessing! Thank you so much for sharing. You so inspire me . Thank you and God bless!

We have several free water parks here in our town and believe you me each boy knows right where they are~ I have even taken detours~ does not work~ they are on to me~
ReplyDeleteI recently found out about a place that you can go and find items and it is on donation basis~ I also have the opportunity to go to one of the thrift stores once a month and get items that we need~ they do have a list and price range~ I am so blessed~ Then I gather up items of clothing that the family has worn often~ yet still has lots of use and take them back to the thrift store~ This gives back to others~
Have a great day with your adventures in all you do~ I must get me busy before my little men rise~
Blessings~
like abba12 said, I'd love to hear about what your standards are for dressing your daughters. I have a little girl (8 weeks, so dress isn't really an issue yet lol), and I used to only wear skirts... but lately find myself wearing jeans... ALL THE TIME! hmmm must be that new mom syndrome of wearing the same thing days on end.
ReplyDeleteAnd, good to know Patience is sleeping well now. My Faith is the same way and won't sleep unless I'm right next to her, and I love that she needs me next to her :-)
I'm so encouraged to hear that your little one is doing better. We are still waiting for our new little guy (1 month) to enjoy the world a little more. Praying that comes soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing so much of the seemingly minute details of your life ... it offers a glimpse of life with so many children.
ReplyDeleteAW! This reminds me of the times with a new baby that my darling and I just cannot sleep, because we remain awake looking at this precious wee one between us!!! Our 9yods is now excited for the birth of our Frances, as he wants to know what her personality will be like. ~smile~ All so good~this post just makes me happy! (((((HUGS))))) sandi
ReplyDeleteYes, a home should be a haven from the world. And the beans and rice and cornbread always hit the spot. We'll be doing more of that this summer, too. So glad your baby is doing well. Liz
ReplyDeletelove this! :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you all are doing well. It's difficult when a newborn has tummy problems and you just want to take away that pain. I'm glad little Patience is doing better. Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful day!
